CONSTRUCTION & DEMOLITION

Our waste transfer station in Hailsham is equipped to recycle all construction and demolition waste including hardcore, wood, plasterboard, soil, metal and packaging. We have the ideal machinery to ensure these items are recovered and recycled. Our trommel separates the 15mm and below, a density separator separates the heavy from the light fraction and quality control stations make sure each material is free from contaminates.

Construction and demolition (C&D) waste encompass a wide range of materials generated during construction, renovation, and demolition activities. These materials can be bulky, diverse, and often present challenges in terms of handling, disposal, and environmental impact.

Construction Waste:

  • Definition: Construction waste includes materials produced during the building or renovation of structures like buildings, roads, bridges, or infrastructure projects.
  • Examples: Concrete, bricks, wood, drywall, insulation, roofing materials, metals, plastics, and packaging are common components of construction waste.

Demolition Waste:

  • Definition: Demolition waste arises from the dismantling or destruction of structures, buildings, or infrastructures.
  • Examples: Concrete rubble, masonry, steel, wood, insulation, electrical wiring, plumbing fixtures, and other materials from demolished structures fall into this category.

The management of C&D waste is critical for sustainable construction practices. Strategies such as waste reduction, recycling, and responsible disposal play a key role in minimizing the environmental impact of these materials. Efforts often focus on:

  1. Reuse and Recycling: Salvaging materials for reuse and recycling helps reduce the amount of waste sent to landfills. Items like wood, metals, concrete, and certain plastics can be recycled or repurposed in other construction projects.
  2. Waste Segregation: Properly sorting C&D waste on-site allows for more efficient recycling and disposal processes.
  3. Regulatory Compliance: Many regions have regulations governing the disposal and management of construction and demolition waste to promote environmentally friendly practices.

Efforts to manage C&D waste aim to minimize environmental impact, conserve resources, and encourage sustainable practices within the construction industry.
